History

MAHLKÖNIG has its origins in a manufacturing company called Stawert Mühlenbau GmbH & Co. KG. The tradition-rich family business was founded in Hamburg, in the year 1924. Firstly the company produced electric motors. Soon the firm moved into grinders for a wide range of materials - coffee, corn, spices, and other mechanical instruments like meat mincing machines and color mixers. Since 1960, production has been concentrated on coffee grinders, which now comprise over 90% of MAHLKÖNIG's product line.

Till 1990 the company was still managed by the founding families. Eventually the ownership and management was gradually transferred to the Erichsen family.
1999 Nils Erichsen took over as the head of management and stays responsible for the company till today. Since then he introduced a significant expansion to the product portfolio, especially into the restaurant and catering market with the development of "grind-on-demand" espresso grinders for traditional espresso machine.

After the demand on the national market expanded significantly, international exports increased also and have become more and more important within the last 15 years. A development that deeply affected the structure of the business. Nowadays the international marketing has become one of the key assets of MAHLKÖNIG.

The rapid process of growth, especially within the global market, led to a readjustment. In November 2005 the manufacturing company of Stawert Mühlenbau and the marketing and distribution company of MAHLKÖNIG merged into one new company MAHLKÖNIG GmbH & Co KG. Due to this merger, more office space was needed. To meet the demands of the new company, the production site at Tilsiter Strasse 142 in Hamburg was renovated and the office space has been doubled by adding a new floor on top of the old building.

MAHLKÖNIG will stay in motion. This proves another move – the consolidation of Mahlkönig GmbH & Co. KG and Ditting Maschinen AG, Switzerland in December 2007. The two companies, known for their expertise and the production of high quality grinders, agreed the equal merger of their companies under the umbrella of the Swiss HEMRO Holding AG.

The worldwide highly recognized and successful brands DITTING and MAHLKÖNIG will continue independently and the manufacturing plants in Bachenbülach, Switzerland, and Hamburg, Germany, will be expanded.
